Hi! I’m a professional, insured cleaner, with several years of experience in residential cleaning, home organization, and design. I also have a background in anti-carceral mental health and community work, and am a trans person.
I started Creature Comforts because I love my clients and the work I do, but don’t love the traditional, rigid approach and exploitative labor practices of most cleaning companies. Cleaners deserve dignity and respect in our jobs, safe working conditions including proper PPE and training, and control over our schedules, rates, cut of profits, and lives. Through Creature Comforts, my hope is to establish a structure that is better for cleaners and for clients.
My clients are diverse in age range, income, home/family structure, you name it. I work with clients living in spaces ranging from studio apartments to multi-generational homes or large shared living situations. I especially love working with clients who are queer, neurodiverse, hobbyists, or collectors.
My goal is to bring a neurodiverse-friendly and trauma-informed lens to all my services, so some of my common practices include:
- checking in about what to touch or not touch in your space
- asking you whether you want everyday items to be visible and accessible or put away in cupboards or boxes, because for some folks, out of sight really is out of mind!
- not moving items unless we’ve discussed that in advance
- asking about noise and scent sensitivity and offering alternatives to vacuuming if noise sensitivity is a concern
- validating that having a new person in your space touching your things can be stressful, and that cleaning and de-cluttering can be very overwhelming, and always giving you the option to pause
- bringing a 100% judgement-free attitude and fighting the cultural narrative there’s a morality attached to a cluttered home!
- asking clients if they would like me to mask up in their home, and wearing a quality N95 mask properly for the entire duration of the session if requested
- knowing that you know yourself best, and following your lead on how your space should be organized
I’m also very happy to accommodate or discuss basically anything you can think of that will make the service feel more comfortable for you. Just reach out!
